HOW TO CALCULATE UPHOLE VELOCITY

To calculate uphole velocity in feet per minute (metres per minute), the following equations can be used.

CFM x 183.4 Litres/Sec x 76404.7
Bit Dia. Inches2 - Rod Dia. Inches2 Bit Dia. mm2 - Rod Dia. mm2

Example:   Example:
  600 (CFM) x 183.4
6.125 x 6.125 - 4.5 x 4.5
  283 (L/Sec) x 76404.7
155.58 x 155.58 - 114.3 x 114.3
  110,000
37.52 - 20.25
  21,622,530.1
24,205.14 - 13,064.49
  110,000
17.27
  21,622,530
11,141
  6,369 Annular Velocity (Ft/Min.)   1941 Annular Velocity (M/Min.)

When surplus air volume is available, the hammer can be fine tuned by the use of the interchangeable choke located in the end of the feed tube. The table below shows the additional flow through the orifice (choke).
